Hmm, in my mind I write every evening... Yes, time is running. So I use this hot sunday afternoon to write about the Kieler Woche 2016.
Planning
In spring we found a nice announcement for travelling to Kiel and immediately we thought about the Kieler Woche. So,we booked a sailing boat on kiel-marketing and booked a room on air bnb. When we looked in spring, the train tickets were cheap, but when the time arrived for booking the tickets, the prices rose immediately. yeah, yeah, as everybody knows because of the Kieler Woche.
What was our expectation?
We wanted to smell the sea, to see the sea and to experience the sea. We wanted to see the regatta.
What did we get?
We got some really nice experiences on the boat, that where I want to focus. Because the rest of the Kieler Woche is like a typical fun fair. The international market, where you can eat food from ALL over the world is really tasty. But the rest of the area is crowded with the typical Jahrmarkt-food and you can smell the oil. The regattas are of course out on the sea. Unfortunately, the public transportation in Kiel focusses on buses, where the central station is the central hub. Since our room was outside of the city center, getting around was not as easy as expected. We needed nearly 1 hour for every point we wanted to see. So we had to skip some parts.
Saturday - 7 hours - experience on a sailing boat
When we were planning the trip, we looked for a nice and old sailing boat. Fulvia af Anholt is a Galeasse, which was built in 1898. She was an official post- and passengership in her first times. Since 1982 she has been sailing under a german flag.
The boat is 21 meters long and the trip was booked for 20 people. We could help to seek and to set the sails. We sailed around the Kieler Bay and could watch the starting points of different regatta. We had so much fun and joy on board. This sailing trip was definitely my highlight of the month, I would not have missed it.

When will we sail again, Fulvia?
